Sunday--7.3 miles

So spring is beginning to ... spring!  Although warmer than yesterday, it's still just 42 degrees!
I did my Sunday morning walk with Joan.  I woke up late and rushed to meet her on time.  As a result ... my feet are hurting!
But ... there is NO complaining!
The geese are out ...
... but so far ... no poop!
My new size 8s are still clean!
...
It's supposed to rain for the rest of the week.
What to do?
Auntie Bee ... I love you and Charlie.
Thank you for following me.

And the old shoes make their way out to the trash--6 miles

It was sayonara to the old and hello to the new size 8s this morning.  I took the new shoes on my old route and my feet (protected by this walker's best friend ... Glide) feel great!  It was 36 degrees today, a far cry from last weekend's beautiful weather.  I'm looking forward to another wonderful training walk next Saturday in the City.
...
So, I've had this "thing" on my leg for a while.  It started out as a scratch, then turned into a perfect red, round "thing."  It was flat and it didn't hurt ... but it was there.  My internist told me to have it biopsied ... which I didn't do.  Finally, though, I did see a dermatologist who treated it with a topical cream and told me to come back if it didn't go away.  Well ... it did fade ... but it didn't go away ... so I did see the dermatologist and he did biopsy the "thing."  The diagnosis (after a week's wait) was "benign thing" and he'll see me in a month.  What this "ordeal" did was make me so much more aware of what women and men waiting for the results of a biopsy ... then getting the news that it's malignant  ... go through.  I'm so lucky (knock wood.)  Just the words "possible low grade skin cancer" was pretty scary.
So ... for all those who haven't been as lucky ... I continue to walk.
And walk.

Training in Port--7.3 miles

It was great to get back on the road in Port!  I met Joan (who told me of the plans being made for her 80th birthday!) and she and I walked the first half of my route.
The spot that is pictured above will look very different in a month or two.

Although not as exciting as the City ... I stopped a number of times to speak to old friends.
I love this community.
...
I have to admit ... my feet are really sore!  But, I checked, and the Glide did the trick ... NO BLISTERS!

The Beginning--12 miles (Give or Take!)

Today is the beginning of training for San Diego in November.
I met a group of 3-day walkers in Penn Station in the City.
At first the nice officer said "Not at this time." when I asked him to take our picture ...
but then, he changed his mind.
And here we are!
We were probably overdressed for the most beautiful day this year!
We walked west from the station to the water ... and so began our 12 mile training walk.
Now, I'm not a City girl ... so I was like a tourist ... ooohing and ahhhing all the way.
New York is amazing.
Burt ... our fearless leader ... told us that we would be passing one of his favorite sculptures ... "Eyes."  He was right when he told us it should have been titled something else ...
What do you think?

Ah ... perfect!
I was going to edit the next photo ... but I wouldn't want you to miss Miss Liberty in the background ...

Thanks to a great group.
I've officially begun my new journey.
Hope you will follow me along the way.

Training Walk NYC

I received an email from a man who does several 3-day walks each year.  He asked the Susan G. Komen 3-Day organization to send him a list of 3-day walkers in the New York area and then he sent an invitation to us all to join him in training walks.  I've never done this before.  I'm excited to be joining the group next weekend for a 13 mile walk through NYC.  I haven't taken a long walk since November so this should be interesting.
My first supporters have donated to Susan G. Komen in my honor... so it's time for me to get busy!
