Day Two

It has taken me a few days to get to Day Two, eh?
I've been trying to get back in the swing ... (Thank you Mr. Columbus for giving me an extra day!)
Here are a few pictures from day 2 ...
(Which one is for you, Sarge?)
Early trek through the mist to the Golden Gate
I might have considered jumping on the way back.
Thumper and me with the Coast Guard boys!
Loved the signage!
Sausalito
Them doggies were rollin' but they were also barkin'
This guy had a GREAT body!
Going up ...

up ...
UP ... to cross the ...
Golden Gate again ...
I felt really good walking over the bridge and kept up with the crowd.  It was worth the trip because ... when I got back to camp ... I was greeted by ...

this one's for you Sarge ...
The LOVELY Mr. August from the 60 mile men
who encouraged me to rest my weary self on his fabulous pink boobies!
...
Another 20 miles down ... one more day to go!

Day One

Phyllis and me
Phyllis and I had breakfast ... then parted company.  She had to be at Opening Ceremonies to check out the walkers ... I had to just get there to enjoy the moments before our first steps.
I walk for ...

One of the first things I did when I arrived at the Cow Palace was grab a sticker and write the names of those for whom I walk ... Mom,
Cynthia, Phyllis, and Bee ... my heroes!
It was fun for me to watch my fellow "virgin" walkers as they began their journey.  Opening Ceremony is always so moving.
After the ceremonies ... we were on our way.
First steps taken ... we were ...
Here are a few of the highlights of the day.
The 3-day is colorful and fun and fabulous.
crowd waiting to cross the street

One of the sweep vans ... the Manbulance

Mario and me ... how about that pink mustache?

Hookers for Hooters sweep van

San Jose Police Department ... DELICIOUS!

The signage was great

Our first look at the Golden Gate
We ended our first day at camp in the Presidio.  Phyllis had set up our tent and delivered my duffle, for which I was so grateful (after our first 20 miles I was just a tad tired!)
After a steak dinner under the "big top" and a shower in the truck ... it was off to semi-sleep.
Day one ... 20 miles down.  Two days and 40 more miles to go.  We were 1/3 of the way there!

Let's start from the very beginning ...

Giant macaroni ... you know you love it!
Let me take you on our journey from the very beginning!
Phyllis and Roberta do San Francisco!
(or ... just a part of it!)
New Yorkers on the BART!
Phyllis and I loved the BART.  We took it to Embarcadero  and walked to the Ferry Building.  I have been waiting to go back to the Ferry Building for a year ... and here are some reasons why ...
cookies ...
cakes ...
cheeses ...
mushrooms ...
The Ferry Building has the most beautiful foods and flowers and EVERYTHING ... it's a wonderful marketplace ... and ...
view from the Ferry Building
 ... the view is amazing.
We ate at Hog Island Oyster where we had the BEST waiter!
Phyllis and Roberta with the BEST WAITER!

  and ...
your's truly!
 DELICIOUS OYSTERS!
Our pedicab driver ... transplanted from New York!
Phyllis wanted to take a pedicab to Fisherman's wharf ... which we did (and I think I owe her money for this ...)  Our driver was from Westchester.  Go figure!
Fisherman's Wharf
Alcatraz
Sea Lions
We were running out of time as Phyllis had to get back for a crew meeting ... but we walked along the wharf ... and I was attacked by "Branch Man" (but that's another story) ... we took a trolley back to Embarcadero ... and the BART back to our hotel.
Later that night ... we all got together for the Blogger Babes for Boobies team photo:
with pink sunglasses ...

without pink sunglasses
And so we reached day zero of the 2010 Susan G. Komen 3-day 60 mile walk for the Cure.
We look rested don't we?
That's the last time you'll see me wearing make-up for 3 days.
YIKES!
More tomorrow!

Day Two Down ... 20 Miles to Go!

Hello Loyal Followers!
I just finished Day Two!  I have to say...I gained some momentum as I approached the Golden Gate Bridge ... and I came in to camp as number 424 of 1400 walkers.  Not bad!
Day one started at the Cow Palace and wound through San Francisco down by the ocean past Sea Cliff and on to the Presidio by the Golden Gate Bridge.  Phyllis, my friend and tent mate, is crew and was able to pitch our tent.  After a quick visit to the "self help medical tent" for an icing and a new bandage on my under-the-toenail blister ... I had a steak dinner with Karen Thompson and Karen Nichols and around 1400 other walkers.  Showers in the truck are "private" this year ... so it wasn't as difficult showering as it has been in the past.  Sleeping, however, was not as easy as I was surrounded by snorers!
I woke up VERY early and was ready for my second 20 miles.  Today's walk was over the Golden Gate Bridge, into Sausalito, then Mill Valley (where we had lunch) then back.  The Golden Gate was shrouded in fog ... but it was awesome!  I have a lot of pictures (especially for you Sarge ... as you can only imagine! ... and I will be sharing when I get home.
The weather is cool ... but there is so much warmth here.
I think of you all every step of the way.
